A fabulous painted porcelain crane sculpture signed by Giulia Mangani for Oggetti, Italian circa 1970. Hand painted porcelain body perched on gilded metal legs in mid-stride, lacquered wood base. Tightly packed metal thread bristles form the hairs on its head. The body is delicately painted, with gold dashes over the long, black neck, gold leaves and dots on the red wings, fine black hatching on the grey body and individual feathers painted on the tail. Wonderfully detailed texture decorates the gilt legs, with feathers at the top, skin texture on the middle and lined knuckles on the feet. Signed Mangani under the tail. Mangani birds were made in very limited quanities and some are quite rare, becoming valuable to collectors.
Condition: Great vintage condition. Some verdigris on the metal legs, some smudges or variation in finish on the base.
