A remarkable three-piece bronze desk garniture in Empire style from France, circa 1870s. Cast bronze construction with a grand mail holder and two lidded inkwells. The mail holder consists of three slots graduating in height, each separated by pierced panels with curling rinceaux, another panel at the back is topped with an elaborate mask ornament and more scrollwork. Its sides are solid with a roaring lion in scrolling foliate motif over a textured surface. Gadrooned along the plinth base with pierced scrolls at the sides. The footed inkwells have beaded foliate decoration on their dishes, pierced foliate side handles, shapely wells in waterleaf motif and removable lids with beaded detail and dainty raspberry finials. Beautiful patina on the bronze.
Condition: Very good antique condition. Age appropriate wear. Minor discoloration on gilded bronze.
