circa: 18th century
A charming oak painted Louis XIV confiturier or preserves cabinet, French 18th century. Distressed light gray paint with cream highlighting the decorative details. Paneled sides and canted front corners, a single drawer on top with a single door cabinet at bottom. Ribbed trim along the bottom and molded edge on top. Highly decorative carved details on the front, including relief scrolling and acanthus motif on the drawer, and an arched top paneled cabinet door with elaborately winding scrollwork and shell motif with floral adornment. The cabinet has one non-adjustable shelf about center, measures 17" deep. Uniquely curved hinges, wooden knob, and a rough pine paneled back.
Condition: Good antique condition. Old, but not original paint with age distressing and paint loss. Raised feet, painted over age cracks on top. Wear along feet and corners, to be expected for its age. Lock and key not original.
