A very stylish late Art Deco armchair with stained beechwood frame and upholstered seat and back, French circa 1940. The sleek beechwood frame is stained very dark. Flat armrests broaden and swing out with a gentle curve, then cut in at the wrist. Vertical supports reach down from the narrow wrists, widening as they go and ending in a curved sweep at the base of the seat. The front two feet curve in and taper at the base, while the back two feet remain wide and sweep out towards the back. Classic Deco style is evident in the flared seat back, with its broad top and carved-out angled sides. Lightly tufted with five covered buttons. The very thick seat construction is striking, with upholstery spreading below the typical cushion depth. Cream colored heavyweight duck cloth wraps the seat and all around the back rest, while thick brown piping traces all the edges to accent the chair's chic shape. Seat height is 16.5".
