circa: Early 1900s
A rustic antique oak wine jug, French circa 1900. Barrel-type construction with old darkly stained oak bands bound together by ribs of black metal. The body has a wide belly and tapers near the top at the pour spout. A curved metal handle is attached at the back of the spout and connects to a rib near the bottom of the jug. Tacked to the front just under the spout is a brass label identifying the maker as F. Duvernay, who specialized in pieces for wine cellars and was based in the Burgundy region. Will make a nice accent or storage piece.
Condition: Good antique condition. Some wear at the bottom, some old worm holes that have been treated and some nails replaced, all typical for its age and use.
