circa: Early 1900s
An attractive French wooden grain measure with metal elements, early 1900s. Warm-toned oak is curved to form a straight sided bucket gusseted by dark metal bands, vertical and heavily riveted, connecting to the metal band and handle at the top. The original use was for measuring grain, with the carved text "Double Decalitre" indicating volume. The bottom of the piece is marked "Achard Avignon" and further reinforced with sturdy metal bands. Wonderful for use as a refuse bin or storage piece.
Condition: Good antique condition. Some light color variation and a few dings and scratches, typical for its age and use.
