A very decorative pair of French Pedestals made of painted and gilded plaster, circa 1940s. The style mixes Neo-Classical, second Empire and Louis XVI. The pedestals are painted in yellow-green tones with gilded motifs of urns, arabesques and birds. The ionic style tops have scrolls and palmette decor. The pedestal shape is called a gaine in French, meaning a quadrangular pillar diminishing towards the plinth base.
Condition: Very good. Some loss of paint at some parts and some fading on gilt. Minor wear at bases. Note that the pedestals are fragile and will need to be crated for transportation.
