An ornate vintage painted wood Louis XVI style Italian floor lamp, circa 1940. This lamp is loaded with carved features from top to bottom. Just below the three way bulb is a clutch of laurel leaves, followed by a band of geometrical links then a row of beading. The neck tapers in a bit and bears carved scalloped flutes, after which it flares back out with a showy display of acanthus leaves and subtle carving. A long stretch of deep fluting leads to another band of acanthus. The base spreads out and branches into three broad fluted legs that terminate in acanthus, while a central fluted shaft sprouts acanthus and roots itself in a bed of water leaves. The three pointed plinth base rests upon squat, round feet with leaf motif. Off white and light blue painting throughout, plus gilding on all of the leaves and some banding.
Condition: Rewired to US standards, new 18" linen shade. Paint wear and some marks, as well as missing paint chips and gilt work. Some nicks along the base, all typical for its age and use. Shade is 18" dia.x11"H. Without harp: 64.25"H.
