A handsome antique cast iron book press by Fortin & Co in Paris, French circa 1900. The iron was once painted a metallic copper which has been worn through by a century of use, leaving a wonderful patina. The arched frame of the body lends a hint of Gothic architecture to the industrial piece. A wide handle controls the screw mechanism, with great round ends. A brass maker's label reads Fortin & Company, a printer and stationery company. The piece can press books as large as 9.25" x 10.75", and up to 3" deep. The handle raises as high as 17.5". Base has holes for mounting to table top.
Condition: Good antique condition. Functional, a little rust on top.
