A lovely hand-painted Japanese vase, circa 1940s, in blue and white. Glazed ceramic in a classic, simple urn shape with wide shoulders and a flared rim. White glaze base with a hand-painted profusion of flowers in blue glaze. Large peonies are interspersed with chrysanthemums, with cherry blossoms emerging above. Two parrots are perched among the cherry branches with a couple butterflies near by. Arabesque designs with florals and scrollwork ring the rim and base. Just inside the mouth are two cherry branches and two butterflies. Beautiful decorative piece, no marks.
Condition: Good condition with no visible chips or hairlines, light wear on the bottom edge. Many tiny glaze pits and a few glaze pulls, two cracks in the glaze that are well hidden in the design, all original to firing.
