origin: Northern France
An Art Deco era barbotine, or majolica, ceramic pitcher with colorful glazing from Orchies in Northern France. The conical body is slightly tapered near the mouth and has a straight, angled spout. It is etched with vertical ribs in groups of six and glazed in a neutral cream color. The simple angular handle is glazed in a warm brown, which carries over to the wide band near the base of the pitcher. In that band, a series of celadon colored rectangles on a diagonal are hemmed in by fan-shaped sections, carved and glazed in brown. A lovely raspberry sorbet pink glaze coats the inside of the pitcher, adding a lot to the piece in terms of color. Impressed into the bottom of the pitcher is "Orchies Made in France" and the logo. A functional and decorative piece.
