An outstanding cherrywood Louis XV bonnetiere armoire, from the Vendee region of France circa 18th century. Gorgeous, warm cherrywood construction featuring a single large door that opens to a generous space with two non-adjustable shelves and a hanging rod at the top. One drawer spans the armoire's width at the bottom. Beautiful molding throughout, canted and fluted corners, paneled sides and a scalloped apron with relief carved native floral decoration which is echoed at the pediment. Elaborate hardware original to the piece, with large, pierced escutcheons and handle decorations, as well as a long, baluster style hinge. The armoire rests on ball and claw feet. Side to side width: 44-3/4". Inside depth: 19.50".
Condition: Good antique condition. Age appropriate wear and discoloration om wood and metal. A new hanging rod has been installed inside. 2 non-adjustable shelves, one is new.
