A decorative rustic coal iron from the Loire Region made of forged iron with a wooden handle, French circa 19th century. Forged iron body consisting of a heavy bottom plate with pointed front, a large empty chamber above that which housed hot coals, complete with pierced openwork for ventilation, and a hinged top where the handle is attached. A pivoting latch slides to and from to lock the top closed over the coal chamber. The turned pine handle sits high over the top of the iron.
Condition: Very good antique condition with age appropriate wear throughout. Some rust inside.
