A petite marble top Napoleon lll herbalist scale, French circa 1870. This lovely little scale was used to measure herbs and tobacco. The white marble top has gray veining and bullnose edges with beveled corners. Ebonized wood base with thin inlaid bands. Both sides display the glass encased scale, with handsome brass framing. Two rounded brass plateaux scoops rest on either side, both having broad tabbed handles with years of impressed inspection marks. The scale is functioning and measures up to 500 grams, or one half pound.
Condition: Some dents and fading on the wood. Some trim missing. Discolored area on the marble top, as well as little nicks or pits at the edges. Typical for age and use. Discoloration on brass.
