A stately Directoire style cherrywood desk with green leather top, French circa 1900. Cherrywood construction with brass hardware and embellishments, embossed and gilt green leather top. Clean lines throughout with straight, tapered legs, incised geometrical carved details at the corners and brass strips embellishing the inset panels on all four sides. Brass drop handles and shield shaped key escutcheon, brass square sabots cap the feet, and brass rosettes adorn the heart of the carved decorations. The textured dark green leather top has subtle embossing and an inset trim of gilt foliate motif and lyres. Generous drawer space. Floor to apron measures 23.5".
Condition: Good antique condition. Some scratches into the leather top and light gilding loss. Age marks on the top of desk at back with some light fills at the front left corner. A few gouges along the bottom of back edge. Crack at back left leg, and very slight twist on back right leg.
