circa: 19th century
origin: Bresse Region
A fabulous and large 19th century French trunk made of walnut in the Louis XIV Style. The front features two molded panels with fanciful scalloped top edges. This character is echoed with carved decoration on either panel, showing spirals at the outer top corners and relief carved flowers at the centers. The frame between panels has a relief carved star inside of a textured circle, embellished by two little leaves. Double paneled sides have further molding, as does the overhanging chest lid. The corner posts continue straight down to become stout square feet. Beautiful patina throughout the piece.
Condition: Good antique rustic condition with age appropriate wear and stains on wood throughout. Slight separation between boards on top. The two back corner posts have been replaced. Lock and key are missing.
