A painted and upholstered window seat bench in the Directoire style, circa 1950s. Ivory paint with gilt raised details. Two seat backs on the sides are à cornes", or horned back, with scrolled tops accentuated by sunflowers. Large lozenges span the tops and bear raised sunflowers. The center supports on the backs take the form of substantial palmettes. Each corner features classic square inset die joins with sunflower detail. The seat fabric is a densely woven burlap with slight tonal variation. An expansive needlepoint decoration graces the seat in two shades of blue. At the center is a classical kylix urn holding a varied bouquet, ringed by pearls, then surrounded by wave motif along with palmettes and acanthus. The seat retains its original horse hair stuffing and antique nail head trim.
Condition: Some cracks and few chips or paint wear, slight separation at some joints, fading. One leg is slanted.
