circa: Early 1900s
Diminutive walnut bench with upholstered seat in the late Louis Philippe style, circa 1900. Perfect in stature for a child, this charming bench features beautiful woodwork and a wonderful patina. Turned legs and stretchers in simple baluster form are connected with square die joins. Each of the legs is topped with a smooth, round ball finial. The back piece contains eleven eleganly turned spindles with ball centers that echo the finials. Brackets connecting the back piece have hints of early Art Nouveau style. The seat is covered with a fine woven fabric in muted, neutral dijon and has raised ecru ribbing. Double welt cording in the same fabric traces the edges of the upholstery. Floor to seat height is 17".
Condition: Great antique condition. A few light marks on the wood, to be expected with age and use. New upholstery.
