A resplendent French Renaissance Revival Rococo style curule bench in red cherrywood, circa 1950. The X-shaped form is very striking and has a rich, deep wood tone. The bench frame reaches out and curls in at the ends, creating elegant scrolls, and is decorated with relief carved flowers and molding. Sumptuously carved legs feature foliate tops terminating in powerful, clawed feet. At the center, scrolled edges meet the sides of carved palm motif. New linen upholstery with double welt cord edges. Seat height is 16".
Condition: Great vintage condition. A few light nicks along edges of the wood and at the feet. New upholstery.
