circa: Late 1800s
A Renaissance Revival, circa 1880s, French corner armchair made of dark walnut with abundant carvings. The rounded back features a mask at its center, fanciful dragons at the end of the armrests and phoenixes on the back. More carvings of acanthus leaves, scrolls and shells, much of it raised against a stipple textured background for a rich effect. The turned legs have wide fluted detail and a foliate cartouche at the joints. Lovely original needlepoint upholstery with floral design. Floor to seat: 16.50". Great accent chair!
Condition: Very good. Age appropriate wear on upholstery. Some fading color on wood.
