A handsome antique Louis XVI style cherrywood buffet, French circa 1800. Richly toned cherrywood case piece with ample storage, it is all cabinet space with no drawers, what the French call "Bas D' Armoire." The top, sides and doors are paneled, showcasing different grains and tones. A wide strip with decorative fluting separates the two doors, adding interest and strength to the piece. Both front corners are rounded, ending in turned, tapered feet with subtle molding. Round projected corners on the buffet's top echo the profiles below. Simple stepped molding surrounds the paneled insets on the doors. Inside the cabinet is pine, with a pine shelf, floor and back. The shelf is fully adjustable to suit your needs. Interior space measures 18" deep, 27" tall with 4" frame coverage at top and 2.5" coverage at the bottom, and 48" wide, including the 7.5" fluted strip in the middle. Functioning skeleton key locks and stamped wreath escutcheons.
Condition: Good antique condition with wear and marks on the wood typical for a piece of its age. Slim age crack in the right panel on top, some separation between planks. small repair at the front edge. Replaced locks and escutcheons, dings and wear on the feet.
