circa: Mid 1800s
A smart Louis Philippe period buffet in walnut, circa 1830. The rich, warm walnut has a wonderful patina and boasts little signs of its age throughout. Well-constructed, it features a paneled top and doors. Solid sides with a plinth base and bracket feet. A subtle a doucine shape embellishes the single generous drawer at the top. The cabinet has a single shelf. Both doors have attractive, unfussy molding, which is echoed by a slight beveled molding along the plinth base. Two spartan brass knobs pull the drawer, a working brass lock with diamond shaped escutcheon is attached to the right cabinet door. The drawer interior is 36.5" wide, 15" long and 4" deep. The cabinet interior measures 42" wide, 15.5" deep and 26" high, the door opening is 35" wide by 20.5" high.
Condition: Some light superficial scratches and a few old dings on the surface. Slight age cracks on the sides. Old worm holes throughout, the piece has been treated. Lock is not original.
