circa: Early 1900s
A gorgeous pair of large leather bound French books on turn of the century industries and science, circa early 1900s. Le Monde et la Science, edited by Schwartz & Co, Paris. The contents cover a broad range of topics, from the building of aqueducts to steam locomotion. Each section is accompanied by numerous black and white photos and illustrations, with detailed descriptions of the subject, all in French. The front and back covers are truly beautiful, bound in dark blue leather with copious embossed laurel leaves decked out in vibrant gold and silver. Indigo blue edged pages finish the books. They are as fascinating as they are attractive, and will make a wonderful addition to any collection.
Condition: Good antique condition. Some rubbing and color loss around the outside edges, some very light water marks on the covers.
